Today a client of mine saw this saying come true with his very own eyes.
As part of an exclusive public speaking session, I videoed the business executive speaking for 5 minutes.
Then I asked him to look at the recording and critique it.
"My hands. I kept putting my left hand in my pocket and touching my chest. I would be distracted if I were in the audience."
I assured him that next time he would improve.
Then I asked him to give another presentation.
"I thought you meant next week. At our next session."
"Now is a good time" I replied.
This time he spoke for 8 minutes.
I recorded it and we watched his performance.
Guess what?
He only put his left hand into his pocket once, and that was briefly.
The client was elated.
I asked him what the secret to his improved performance was.
He replied "I was more conscious of my hand movements before and even while I was speaking."
He was right.
His consciousness was as a result of watching the first video of him speaking.
Which by the way was the very first time he had ever done so.
He was able to measure his performance by pointing out where he fell short.
Then he used the feedback to be better the next time around.
You can get similar results.
Just try it and see for yourself.
Question: No matter what you do, do you record your practice sessions?
