Mr Ugwoke Emmanuel, A Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) officer, was on Thursday summoned by the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on drug trafficking charges before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
The court read a two-check charge of unlawful offering and transporting of 384 kilograms of marijuana.
Emmanuel, a 25-year-old who lived in Bale-Oko at Badagry Local Government Area, Lagos State, supposedly transported cannabis with an official (NCS) Toyota Hilux at the Gbaji Customs checkpoint along Seme-Badagry Road on May 14, 2017.
Emmanuel, works at the Seme Border Post of the NCS.
The affirmed offenses are in opposition to segments 19 and 20(1)(a) and culpable under segment 20(2) of the National Drugs Laws Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30, law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Emmanuel argued not guilty to the charge.
Therefore, the NDLEA prosecutor, Aliyu Abubakar, while asking for the court to settle a trial date, encouraged the court to remand him in jail guardianship pending his trial.
Benson Ndakara and Viviane Ekwegh, which are the defendant’s lawyers begged the court to concede him to be bailed on liberal terms, as they documented an application for his bail and a duplicate of the application had been served on the prosecutor.
The managing judge, Justice Hadizat Rabiu-Shagari, while suspending the matter till September 28, 2017 for decision on the bail application, requested that the accused officer be remanded in prison custody.
