I came across this in an old gardening book last week after a question on our social media about when to sow. I decided that this needed tackling, especially in light of the awful spring we have just had in the UK. The old picture discusses when gardeners can sow in the UK using RHS Wisley as its benchmark, pushing it back by a few weeks for each area (6 weeks later in parts of Scotland!) but in the film below I discuss how you need to get use to your garden and the environment therein. I hope the film below helps you understand why seed companies give such wide dates on their seed packets and why we shouldn't all be doing what Monty is doing on Gardeners' World or what other gardeners are doing of Facebook. Advice is always great but your garden is your garden and you know it best. Sometimes a little watching of our garden pays dividends and avoids windowsills choked with sickening plants.
