First-aid Room




Mines rules require that a first-aid room shall be provided on surface of every mine which employed more than 150 persons on any day during the previous calendar year.

 It shall be situated at a convenient place shall be used for first-aid only.

It shall be under the charge of a doctor.

A nurse and a dresser or a componder and a dresser shall be readily available at the first-aid room throughout the period when persons are at work in the mine.
If an adequately equipped dispensary or hospital belonging to the owner is situated near the mine, Chief Inspector or Inspector can grant exemption from this requirement.

The first-aid room shall have a floor space of not less than 10m square, It shall contain equipment as specified in the Second Schedule (namely a large bench and table, sink and water for washing hands, soap, towel, ATS, dressing, burn dressing, sterilised cotton, roller bandages, antiseptic medicines, triangular bandages, sets of splints, stretcher, blankets etc.)

Every person injured in the mine shall report for examination or treatment at the first-aid room, even if he has been rendered first-aid at or near the work place.
