Namhla's Birthday

A birthday is a big event here on Gough, with weeks of anticipation to help build up the excitement.  In April came the turn of Namhla, and though we know she misses her family back home we made sure to make her big day on the island a special one!  Above you can see the true skuas of Gough gathering, smelling the preparation of party food.
One of Namhla's ambitions on the island is to make it up into Gonydale to get a view of the wide open valleys and mountains of the islands high interior.  She hasn't quite made it yet and so we decided to bring Gonydale down to her and dec out the bar with skuas, albatross and vegetation.

Usually I don't start seeing things until the third glass of wine.

Did we mention that Namhla is terrified of birds?  How is it that this country-bred girl can't even bare the chickens at home?

As per birthday wishes, a coconut cake, courtesy of Marilette!

Every present looks more exciting when wrapped...
...but you have to at least pretend to like it!!

The Deputy enjoys a bit of ceremony in handing over his present

Marilette's gift turns out to be dancing classes!

One of the great dangers of any party is some clouch-slouch trying to sneak off to some unnoticed corner for a quick nap...unluckily for Christiaanit's just another picture opportunity for us (that is real pain on his face, we aren't holding anything back)

When Mara decided to teach Namhla one of our faced-paced card games things began to get tense, both girls seeing psychological warfare as a fair strategy!

Once Christiaan was fully asleep it was time for more pictures!
