I was already an open speller when around my 15th birthday my mom and i started texting. I wanted to return text messages from my family that were all texting me happy birthday. Thats when my mom set up my computer to be able to receive text messages. She held the keyboard so i could be able to text. I started with each person and replied something clever. I started to have a real conversation with each one of them. That was the begining of my texting journey. It has become my 2nd miracle. My first, ofcoarse the day i started spelling in virginia with kelly berg.
Since then i text my family all day long. I get to share with my siblings all my daily thought and feelings and in turn i get to hear about them. They have learned all about my funny side and i can truly be myself.
Its not just my siblings, i get to talk to my grandma, my cousins, my aunt, my friends. They finally get to know who i am. For the last 14 years i lived in complete silence always listening but never a word spoken. It was hell. I had so much to say. Texting has given me a voice, a life full of laughter and full of love. I get to finally tell everyone what i am really feeling wether its good or bad.
Sometimes i group text with all the grandkids at once and sometimes i just want to talk alone to my brother. Either way i am free well almost. I am working everyday to become autonomous.
The cradle is a completely new challenge which i plan to overcome very soon.
My advice to all spellers is text text text it could give you all a whole new miracle. It gave me one. It evens the playing field.
Dash the speller of all spellers.
