RAW took a slight step back the last two weeks. Let's right this ship! Looking back, the Undertaker/HHH promo was not that great. Ten years ago fans would have hung off of every word that the Undertaker said and now he is showered with "What's" over and over. His promo was faltering and quite dull and it also dragged out for too long. I did not hate it but then again in hindsight it was not that great. I am just not looking forward to another match where HHH's ego needs to be satiated and both men are older and more broken down. Last year's was slow moving and I expect more of the same. To be fair it should be a brawl and it should be at least decent. Also, it is a moneymaker so I do not blame the WWE in any way for booking and promoting the match but they need to make it more dramatic, and HitC is a start. Cena trying to be the "rebel" and re-invented again is getting old. To be honest it is more entertaining than Vanilla Cena but at the same time they just dumped a two month old angle like a hot potato. Oh well. Rock shows up and they need to have him show up more often. In fact he needs to wrestle before the big show. Tag match or whatever. Apparently some people have been displeased that he is getting main event status in the locker room. Not sure if it is a work but I am sure some are peeved. Those people are fucking idiots. WWE is actually putting together a decent card and the Rock will sell out the arena or nearly so and get more buys and therefore bring in more money and that will help the WWE in the long run as it can bring back people to watch and perhaps hook them. Now, it would be better if it was not Cena or we could get a Punk/Rock feud or even better an Austin/Punk feud, which has been rumored. Cena does not need the rub....Anyway I expect a lot of angle advancement and that is fine but hopefully they sprinkle in some good wrestling and keep the nonsense to a minimum.
After a long recap, here comes Punk!
Match 1: CM Punk (c) v. Daniel Bryan (c)
Ohhh, starting strong! More recap and this is of their title bout last week. Here comes Jericho though! Jericho asks if Punk is surprised to see him. Jericho claims he is the best in the world. He is part of a dying breed who traveled the world and paid their dues. They put on the best matches despite the politics and what the powers that be thought. Sure, he developed a bad reputation with the powers that be and he had a chip on his shoulder but so what. Punk has that rebellious streak in him but he is just a Jericho wannabe and he plagiarizes him every step of the way. Punk stops him and he along with everyone else is sick of listening to him. Punk knows how good he is but the insinuation that he copies Jericho bugs him as he has not copied anyone. Punk then brings up that he is not the first to state they were the best and he brings up Hart and his best phrase and he mocks Jericho if he made that up, and made up Canada too. Jericho calls him smarmy and tells him that this is a whole new level and he has proven that he is the best every night for 22 years and tells the crowd that they can boo all they want but they know it is the damn truth. He has beaten everyone and won every title. He goes on about that and Punk returns the favor and says that Jericho is not the man like he is and while he agrees that Jericho beat legends like Austin, but Punk is the champ and lives this. Jericho goes out and dances and writes books and has a radio show and has a band while Punk is busy swimming with sharks. All Jericho could think about while Dancing and tearing up the dance floor was Punk ripping him off. All his vignettes and flashy jacket was window dressing for him to return in order to embarrass Punk on the biggest stage of them all. He reiterates that he is the best. Punk responds that that is all he had to say and he did not have to jump him. Punk does not need Chris Brown and Jericho does not need Rourke as well as his stupid Lite-Brite Jacket and he is looking forward to the match as it could be the best wrestling match ever. Jericho will see him holding up the belt and it will not be the end of the world just his. Here comes Daniel Bryan with AJ and Laurenitais and Otunga in two.
Bryan attacks him in the corner with a flurry of blows. Punk comes back and tosses him to the floor. Bryan jumps up on the apron and is elbowed back off. Teddy Long has come down too.
Commercial.
Bryan is kicking him over and over in the corner. Punk turns him around and chops away. He climbs up and hits a reverse crossbody for two. Punk works over the arm, drilling it with his knee. Bryan is up and drives him into the corner, drives his shoulder into him and then snaps him over, and works the arm. They keep fucking panning away to show the announce table where Cole and John and Teddy all bicker. Punk is up and they tussle. Bryan is knocked to the floor. Punk attempts a suicide dive but stops as AJ enters the scene as Bryan called her over and Bryan hauls Punk down to the ground and hammers him.
Another fucking commercial. Fuckers....Oh and they pan away again.
Bryan is working him over, whips him into the corner but misses the charging kick. Punk takes it to him and strikes with a swinging neckbreaker and he connects with the running high knee. Bryan pulls free from the bulldog attempt but swings and misses. Punk drops him and hits the Macho elbow but Punk acts hurt. He is up and motions for the GTS. Otunga hops up on the apron and that allows Bryan go go for the Lock but Punk rolls through and they both collide off the crossbody attempt. Otunga is back on the apron and Santino is there and it is Cobra time. Laurenitais pulls him off and now he and Teddy argue. Bryan is trying to leave, and Sheamus runs down and decks him. Back in the ring: GTS and the ref delays the count until John runs in and stops the match. Punk is pissed. Teddy runs in and shoves Laurenitais down and they are all arguing.
**1/2 Overbooked and too many commercials and shitty camerawork. Still they did what they could.
Punk is leaving and Jericho ambushes him and beats his ass. He applies the Walls on the grating. He finally breaks the hold and takes his title, holding it up.
Josh Mathews informs us that Punk is in the Trainers Room, but Punk is more angry than hurt. Great journalism!
Literally a five minute video package of last year's UT/HHH match.
Match 2: Divas Nonsense
I went to the bathroom and have no idea who won. Nor do I care.
Match 3: John Cena v. Miz
Portland is vociferously booing him.
Miz has the mic and is doing his usual whining. Jesus. It is the same shit and he has really failed to get over. He is bitching that he is not in WM. He tells the crowd to shut up and says really a lot. Jesus, he is still going and claims he is really great and should be in WM if he wins.
Cena does his usual, punches, kicks and knees and now a running forearm. Miz counters with a neckbreaker and he gets two and now he stomps away. He kicks him and gets another two count. Cena comes back and works him over, dropping him with a big clothesline. Miz counters a suplex with a DDT and he gets two. Lawler is licking Cena's balls as he gushes about how great he is. Miz sandwiches Cena in the corner and heads up top, and he misses and here comes "vintage" Cena. Luger time! Kidding. Knuckle Shuffle. Miz is finished.
**
Rock is hopping up and down in the back as he watches the match from a TV. He acts like he pulls down a curtain and it fades to black and Cena leaves.
Match 4: Kofi Kingston and R Truth v. Ziggler and Swagger (c) v. Primo and Epico (c) for WWF Tag Titles
Got distracted. Back and forth match. Swagger has the Lock applied but Trouble in Paradise stops that and then Epico pins Swagger....Poor Swagger.
** It was still decent.
Here comes Kane and there go the midcarders. Why? Ziggler gets chokeslammed with Epico and Truth too. Kane leaves. That was pointless.
John and Otunga are arguing about why the Artist won Best Picture. Teddy comes in and John yells at him to get out. Teddy informs him that he will not be running RAW and John repeats it about SD. Teddy leaves after calling him a horse's ass.
Here comes Eve and she is being called names by the crowd and she tells the crowd to go ahead and judge her as she is a woman in a man's world. Men love to be used by her. She goes on about that and how men should blame themselves. She blows a kiss and leaves.
Eve is confronted by Kelly Kelly and words are exchanged and the latter is pissed.
Sheamus and Big Show are going to team up and they fist bump. Jesus.
Edge in a new movie. Trailer and it looks bad.
Match 5: Big Show and Sheamus v. Cody Rhodes and Mark Henry
Cody is showing more Show WM moments. This one of him getting beat up the boxer....Jesus, his name is slipping by me. He beat his wife and he and Manny play grabass instead of fighting. Oh well.
Mayweather!
Show spears Henry and Rhodes starts to leave. Brogue Kick on Henry and it is over.
DUD.
Here comes the Rock! Rock soaks in the chants for a few minutes. He shows his arm and there are goosebumps and he informs us that it feels so damn good. Fans chant: Boots to Asses. Also, he is not here every week and this may come as a shock to many in the back. But he was born in the WWE and if it was not for the fans he would not exist. He meant it when he said he was never going away. It did not mean that he would be back every week and if someone in the back wants to take it literally and that person can. Unlike that person and he knows who he is he respects....Fruity Pebbles chant and Rock chuckles and he loves that chant. Rock respects the intelligence of the fans as they know he was born in this business. He loves the fans and for years he thought Cena was a phony. The guy who went to private school was the Dr. of Thugonomics and he was from the streets. He realizes he is that person. Cena ran him down when he was not there. Cena can get a hold of him as he has his number, which he has used before but Rock does not want to speak with him and would rather speak to some Kung Pao Chicken (that sounds good). He does not think Cena is a bad guy but he is a Kung Pao Bitch! Fans try to chant that but it does not really flow. But it catches on. Something John said resonated with him and that was he was going to fight for the wrestlers in the back. Rock grew up in this business and no one fought for him and he did not fight for anyone. Austin did not fight for him when the Rocky was booed mercilessly when he was a face like Cena is now. He name drops HHH, Foley and Savage and Piper and they were men and did not fight for anyone. While Cena fights for the boys, Rock fights for the fans. Fans chant "Rocky." The people are sick and tired of having the Kung Pao Bitch shoved down their throats every single night! Right now Kung Pao Bitch is trending! Rock loves to be entertained and he talks about innovation and trail blazing new ground. He brought up Fruity Pebbles and what did we see: His face on a box of cereal. More chants. He gets the crowd to chant Lady Parts and Rocky....He brought up Twitter when he mentioned shoving his boot up his lady parts. See, he entertains while Cena changes from jean shorts to cammoflauge and he cannot find his balls! Now that is trending. Missing balls chant. Cue Cena. Cena comes out and grins and keeps say whoah and how much fun this is. He brings up Kung Pao Chicken and penis or something. Cena admits he is the guy that runs him down when he is not here but he does it when he is here too. Cena loved the Rock until he met Dwayne Johnson who is an egotistical sonofabitch who would not care if the WWE shut its door. He does not need Twitter for that or footnotes for his speech and on April 1 he is going to beat his ass and something about balls. Cena leaves. Rock stares and there are Rocky chants. Rock says it just like Cena to come out and run his mouth and then leave before he gets slapped around. Rock and Dwayne are the exact same man. He goes off and then if you can smell what he is cooking.
*** Wow that was one long ass promo. I mean really long. Still it was pretty classic and the fans loved it. The opening match was solid too despite the overbooking but I enjoyed the Jericho/Punk promo. Overall the show was decent. It was all angle advancement and while Cena annoys me and there is really nothing that will change that, the show did its job. Next week will focus on HHH and UT I am sure....
