It was 9 back that Ram Charan had come with "Rachcha" which did considerable business at the box-office. Now he is back as "Nayak" in the direction of VV Vinayak with Kajal Agarwal and Amala Paul in tow. Let's see how "Nayak" fares.
It is the city of Kolkata and certain Taxi Seth captures few individuals and tries to kill them. A youngster fondly called as "Nayak" (Ram Charan) kills all of the goons and frees the captives. Minister Rawat (Pradeep Rawat) gets angry over the killings and orders that the perpetrator be caught. CBI officer (Ashish Vidyarthi) gets into the investigation and starts his job.
Out there in Hyderabad, there is Cherry (Ram Charan) who is a fun-loving youngster, in love with Madhu (Kajal), the sister of dreaded Don, Babji (Rahul Dev). Instigated by his cronies, Babji tries to kill Cherry, but finds Cherry to be a much more dangerous guy than originally imagined as he kills off the DIG with impunity. He sides with CBI to get Cherry arrested.
Who is Cherry? What is his relation with Nayak? Will the CBI arrest Nayak? Why is Nayak indulging in such a mayhem? Find answers by seeing "Naayak."
The story of Naayak is very routine and this stuff has been seen in many other films. This film is an out-and-out commercial film which makes no bones about just entertaining the audience. The director has set his mind on entertainment and hence the focus is much on how the audience get entertained. The director trusted the talents of Posani Murali, Jayaprakash Reddy and Brahmanandam in elevating the film rather than depending on the hero and the heroines. In that aspect "Naayak" scores heavily. Since the focus is much on the entertainment part, it is futile to lay emphasis on the loopholes of the story and screenplay.
In short Adurs+Simhadri+Krishna = Naayak.
Coming to the performances of the lead cast, Ram Charan did well in his role. He did all those things which are expected of a Telugu commercial hero and danced well. The heroines, Kajal and Amala looked good and swayed good in the songs.
It is the comic gang of Brahmanandam, MS Narayana, Posani Murali and Jaya Prakash Reddy who entertain the masses with their witty dialogues and punches. It is because of them that the film stands on its feet or else it would have been very dicey as there is nothing novel in the story point or in the screenplay.
The technical departments of Music (SS Thaman), Cinematography (Chota K Naidu) worked well for this kind of film. Other than this there is nothing to rave about. Director VV Vinayak, who specialises in this kind of film making works his way out once again. It requires a special talent to churn similar kind of films again and again. Also one should salute the patience of the audience to accept these fares again and again.
So finally, you might be wondering on why the rating of the film is put at 3.5. Well, the answer is "Naayak" works in its core job of entertaining. And the Telugu audience expects just entertainment and Naayak is an entertainer all the way.
